10.14.08: FF 021 - Nando.

Featuring Nando. & Lyriciss

Tonight on Funkadelic Freestyles, we've got a rack of topics to discuss. That Joe Budden posse track, Statik Selektah's new album, Wale's "Nike Boots" video shoot, and a lot more. Plus tonight's musical guest is steady becoming one of my favorite artists in the area (it's been like, 3 weeks? lol) and his name is Nando. A few days ago I posted his S.N.E.S. (Sep Nando Everyone Sucks) mixtape and have kept it on repeat. He'll be joined by his amigo and last week's guest Lyriciss - who just can't seem to stay away from our studio!

First hour features new music from Che Grand, Statik Selektah, Panacea, Skillz, R.E.U.B., & Wale. Second hour features our live in-studio interview with Nando. and a few premieres on his behalf. Don't miss it!

VIDEO: The Real - Fallout Day

Every week the video sketches from Jeff and Eric as The Real get increasingly funnier. This time around, Eric's got jury duty so Jeff has to pick up the slack and head to the Def Jam offices for an interview. When he discovers his interview is with Pete Wentz of Fallout Boy, his temperamental mood goes farther downhill. Watch the video to find out why Jeff just can't seem to erase his "worst day ever" and to see who ends up surprising him at the end. (Seriously, please watch the whole thing.)

MP3: Che Grand - Restart (Universal Mind Control Redux)

Che Grand, back in a big way! Here's a new song with Com's "Universal Mind Control" beat and a complete Che redux. Off his new mixtape, Breakfast @ Wimbledon, dropping on October 25th. Don't forget to sign the EGU or Nothing petition; convince the people that this man needs to come out with his album!

VIDEO: Joy Denalane - Change (feat. Lupe Fiasco)

I'm taking a quick break from studying to bring you this: the Obama edition of Joy Denalane's video for her single "Change," featuring Lupe Fiasco. Ms. Denalane is a German born singer who released her first English album in August of 2006. This song featuring Chicago's own dropped as a single back in spring of 2007 (sitting on my external hard drive), but new visuals were incorporated to include the Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama.

One of the great things about this video is that not only does it get me back into the music of Joy Denalane, it also gives me a sensational feeling as I await my absentee ballot. Yes, our radio show and blog have officially endorsed Barack, if that means anything. And the other great thing? Mr. Fiasco originally threw his support at Hilary Clinton, but his tune has since changed. He's become extremely positive in getting out the vote for Obama. It's a good day, folks!

MP3: Little Brother - Passion Flower (prod. by 9th Wonder)

Ha! And you thought I was gonna post a picture of Phonte and Pooh! Nah, I mean look, passion flowers are kinda dope, and when's the next time I'ma get to post a picture of one? This track right here is one of three new Little Brother tracks featured on the reissue of their DJ Drama Separate But Equal mixtape, now officially dubbed: Separate But Equal (Drama Free Edition). I don't recall Tay playing this for us in the studio a few weeks ago, but I heard enough joints to last me for days. "Passion Flower" sounds like some Listening type-shit, and yes, it's produced by former group member 9th Wonder.

VIDEO: Judah DistrictFresh.com Interview

DC producer Judah is the man behind your future favorite records. In fact, if you're in the area, he's probably already been behind the boards on A LOT of local hits. I first discovered Judah when listening to Wale's 100 Miles & Runnin' mixtape on the stellar "Daytona Squared." More recently, I peeped the EP he put together with FF alum X.O., and then we communicated briefly via email about his new artist, RAtheMC. See how everyone is connected around here?

Anyway, take a few minutes to check out the exclusive (and well-produced) DistrictFresh.com interview with the new super producer. He's got projects! And...I can't forget that Judah and RAtheMC remade Too Short's "Freaky Tales" for Mick Boogie's VH1 Honor Roll mixtape. Download below!

DOWNLOAD: Nando. - S.N.E.S. (Sep Nando Everyone Sucks)

Today I'll be continuing on with my DMV kick, starting with an emcee and producer named Nando. Previously known as Nando McFlyy., the up-and-comer from the area has a VERY unique sound and has worked with some of the best producers around (A.B., Judah, Best Kept Secret). His mixtape S.N.E.S. (Sep Nando Everyone Sucks) dropped back in August, but he'll be a guest on this week's episode of Funkadelic Freestyles and I'm just getting into his stuff, anyway. Enjoy the free download below, and be sure to peep the extras I'm planning on posting tomorrow!

MP3: R.E.U.B. - Swagger/Dead Presidents Medley

Don't wanna sit through another Swagger Like Us freestyle? Me neither. Luckily, R.E.U.B. ran through one verse over the beat and managed to fit in some details about the economy ("from Wall St. to Ball St. I went that paid route, buying stocks while they cheap waiting on that bailout") and switched it over to Jay's Dead Presidents beat for some quick political commentary. I'm telling you: he's next!

Also, be sure to vote for R.E.U.B.'s new single "Overdrive" at the WPGC Playlist Request. And in case you missed it, click the link below to see the interview I did with the homie over at elitaste.

MP3: Wale - 5 Minutes (feat. Skyzoo) x M.I.A. Boyz Remixes

The resurgence of Wale Ovechkin! First off, "5 Minutes" features Skyzoo and is produced by 9th Wonder off the tremendous LRG x Wale x 9th Wonder presents: Back To The Feature mixtape. And after checking with Mr. Weisman, it's true; 9th Wonder flipped the same sample Wale used for "Back in the Go-Go" on "5 Minutes." The sample? Curtis Mayfield's "Short Eyes," also used on Jay-Z's "American Gangster."

Next we've got a few remixes to M.I.A.'s "Boyz," which is receiving a new reissue. You might have seen a Jay-Z remix pop up a few days back, and there's a story behind it. Back in June 2007, Wale met with Jay when he was still at Def Jam and the "Boyz" video came on the TV. Jay made a joke about challenging Wale to write over that beat, so he did just that, the next day. The verses from the remix appeared on the Scottie B-produced "Bmore Club Slam" off Mixtape About Nothing, but since Interscope is re-releasing the single, Wale recorded two new verses. Peep the 2007 and 2008 versions below.

And DC! This Wednesday Wale will be shooting a video for last year's area anthem, "Nike Boots." (Don't act like you didn't record a verse) The flick will be shot by director extraordinaire Chris Robinson and if you get to Mirrors on time with an ID, you get to be in the video. Do NOT miss this!

MP3: Lil Wayne - A Milli (Live w/ The Roots in Miami)

Last night I was randomly checking Twitter and came upon an interesting tweet from ?uestlove in regards to Lil Wayne making a special appearance at The Roots/Gym Class Heroes/Estelle show in Miami, FL. About 30 minutes later, ?uest had tweeted that he was quite blue-faced from the whole "having to say a milli a million times" thing. OKP dropped this extremely high-quality recording of the event last night, and it turns out it was really dope. This whole Lil Wayne/The Roots meeting of the minds? I actually support any potential studio collab.... (LINK courtesy of eskay/OKP)

VIDEO: Reef The Lost Cauze - I Wonder

The video for the monster song I posted a few days ago, produced by Marco Polo. Stay tuned for a Reef/FF collab soon. Go backward to DL the song.

MP3: LCD - Turn It Up (Remix feat. Southeast Slim & Wale)

This just got dropped off my inbox, and I've gotta say I'm pretty impressed. Another day, another DMV artist I get acquainted with. This one's from the emcee/R&B producer LCD, who (if I gathered my info right) is in DC and originally from Florida/Bahamas. Regardless of his location, click the link below to download the song. From his new mixtape with DJ Alizay, Stay Tuned.

EDIT: My bad, Slim just pointed out I never gave y'all a proper link! Fixed!

DOWNLOAD: Panacea - Ink Is My Drink Instrumentals

K Murdock and Raw Poetic, known together as the DC hip-hop duo Panacea, put the instrumentals for their 2006 Rawkus release Ink Is My Drink up for free download on their MySpace this morning. For a lot of you real hip-hop heads, this is definitely a treat. In my personal opinion, Ink Is My Drink and their follow-up The Scenic Route are two of the BEST independent hip-hop releases of all time. (And I'm not just saying that because K Murdock is a friend, lol)

Anyway, enjoy the free download and the single, "Voyagers," from their new album A Mind on a Ship Through Time in stores on October 28th. I would share with you another track off that album, but I don't think I'm allowed to. Let me just warn you; the album is going to turn some heads.

MP3: Evidence - The Layover

Here's the title track from Cali rapper Evidence's newest project, The Layover EP. Is it just me or has the influx of new music been unbelievable lately? There are several albums/singles that I've wanted to post within the past few days, but I've been extremely busy. Look for a week recap post at the end of the day on Friday.

PODCAST: FF 020 - Lyriciss

Since last night was debate night in America, you may have missed our live interview with the DMV artist Lyriciss. Listen; I forgive you. With our Wednesday podcast post, you get a second chance to hear Lyriciss speak on the hip-hop community, his various mixtapes, and how he came up in the game. Plus he delivers two new verses acapella along with a REAL freestyle. Download below and spread the word.
