Ladies and gentlemen, that time has come. Funkadelic Freestyles goes back on air tonight at 8pm EST with the season premiere and the fifteenth show since I took over last January. Joining me tonight will be my occasional guest co-host, Vex Blizzy, along with our first musical guest of the new school year, DC hip-hop artist X.O. You can listen live at gwradio.com, but all that info is below.
Why X.O. for the first show back? Over the summer, the rapper from Uptown dropped an incredibly thorough mixtape called The Takeover Pt. 2, and got his old-friend (and ours too!) Wale to jump on the remix to his single "Rid'n." It didn't hurt that X.O. happens to be a member of DC's Low Budget, a team of emcees and producers who pride themselves on solid, independent hip-hop. In case you forgot, we had a Low Budget concert last April here at GWU featuring Oddisee, Kev Brown, & Kenn Starr. (Oddisee produced much of The Takeover Pt. 2)
In addition to having X.O. with us in-studio tonight, I'll be playing a collection of new joints from Reks, Wale, Illa J, Elzhi, Southeast Slim, & The Foreign Exchange. And no worries, X.O. promised to bring along some exclusives as well. Below I've included that Rid'n remix (plus the original) and a link that will send you to DCtoBC.com to download the full tape (don't think I ain't notice what y'all been doing!)
