PREVIEW: The Foreign Exchange - Leave It All Behind

Four years ago, a little-known hip-hop album would change the way I listened to music forever. With The Foreign Exchange's Connected, I picked up on every single detail and I studied their work intensely. You see the album cover above? That means they're back.

Emcee/singer Phonte of Little Brother and producer Nicolay began the venture to create Connected over the internet because Nicolay took residence in Holland and Phonte was working with 9th Wonder and Big Pooh in North Carolina. Thus the name: The Foreign Exchange. They're a bit closer this time around, yet both have distanced themselves from hip-hop with their sophomore release, Leave It All Behind. Billed as a "dark, multilayered affair" with "sprinklings of jazz, downtempo, and house," the album does not pretend to be something it most definitely is not. Featuring appearances from Darien Brockington, Yahzarah, Muhsinah, & Zo!
